Join us for chicken nanban! Chicken nanban is a delicious dish consisting of fried chicken covered with a sweet and sour vinegar sauce and served with tartar sauce. The dish hails from Miyazaki Prefecture in Kyushu and fuses together Japanese and Spanish/Portuguese cuisines, and is one of the most popular fried chicken dishes in Japan!


Check the ingredients list before registering.  Once registered you will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link. We will send the recipe card a week before the class.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sake
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • 450 grams (16 oz.) boneless skin-on chicken thighs

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • cooked white rice
  • thinly sliced cabbage
  • miso paste
  • dashi stock (either powdered or from scratch)
  • desired miso soup fillings (tofu, wakame, etc.)
